What to Expect From Network Marketing Plans Like This One

What to expect from network marketing, using the OlyLife plan as the example: what you pay first, how bonuses are earned, what can reverse them, and what to ask.

What should you expect from network marketing? Start with this: you buy product first, bonuses come only from product volume bought through your team, and nobody can tell you what you will earn. This post uses the OlyLife plan as a real example, so you can check each point against the numbers instead of against a sales pitch.

You pay before you are paid

Joining the OlyLife business requires buying a device package. This site lists 4 packages, from $500 to $6,000, plus a region fee of 0% to 15% depending on where you live.† A Tera-P90, for example, is $1,000 at list price.

That is the first number to hold on to, because every bonus in the plan comes after it. OlyLife's plan materials say there is no membership fee, no renewal fee, no autoship and no monthly volume requirement. The cost is the package itself.

What the bonuses are made of

The plan pays bonuses on product sales made through your team. In plain words:

  • Each eligible purchase earns PV equal to 75% of its price.
  • A Performance Bonus of 10% of the PV is paid on purchases you personally introduce.
  • Other bonuses pay when purchases on your left and right sides match up.
  • Every bonus is paid 80% in cash and 20% in repurchase points that cannot be cashed out.†

If nobody in your team buys a device, no bonus is calculated. The plan has no way to pay you for effort alone. This is true of any plan that pays on product sales.

How to read the OlyLife numbers

Here is a hypothetical example about scale, not about income.‡ The first OlyLife rank needs 10,000 PV on each leg. A Tera-P90 purchase is 750 PV and costs $1,000, so that rank is about 14 Tera-P90 purchases on each side of your team.

The point is not that the rank is out of reach. The point is that each step is made of real purchases by real people, and each higher rank asks for far more. When someone shows you a big result, ask how many purchases stand behind it.

What can reverse or limit a bonus

  • Refunds. Bonuses are reversed when the related order is refunded, and a rank reached because of that order can be removed.†
  • Caps. The Group Sales Bonus has a daily cap by package. Matched volume above the cap is not paid.
  • Changes. OlyLife sets the plan. It can change, and it can differ by country.
  • No official earnings figure. OlyLife has not published an income disclosure statement. That means there is no official figure for what a typical member earns, so any number you hear is someone's estimate.

Ask for the mechanics, not the headline number.

Notice what is missing from this list: any promise. A plan can describe how it pays. It cannot know how many people will buy, or when. That is why every example on this site is labelled as a hypothetical illustration.

What you control

You cannot control how many people buy. You can control a few other things:

  • How much you spend, and when. Choose a package size that fits your budget, and never borrow money to join.
  • Whether you start as a customer. You can buy a device without joining, then decide about the business later.
  • How you talk about it. OlyLife's rules ban health claims and income claims, and members answer for what they post.
  • How you keep score. Track your costs and your cash separately from repurchase points.

Questions to ask before you spend

QuestionWhere to find the answer
What does it cost to start, all in?The packages page and your country's region fee
How is each bonus calculated? The plan explorer, step by step
What happens if an order is refunded? The country's Policies & Procedures
Does the company publish what members earn? The earnings disclosure
Do I have to recruit? The business questions page

The short answer to "what should I expect" is that it depends on your effort, your skills, your market and many things outside anyone's control. A plan can show you how the math works. It cannot tell you how your own story will go.

Where to go next

Read the full earnings disclosure first. Then, if you still have questions, the business questions page and how the business works answer the most common ones.
